La Vida

This is life, or at least my life, in its true, chaotic form. In Chicago or wherever the wind may take me, here are my photos and ponderings.

archaeology in action

I haven’t posted in quite a while. School got the best of me this year and then summer carried me off with its’ charm, as usual. Nonetheless exciting things have been happening. In one class, I was able to work on a public transportation project for a non-profit agency in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. Through an abundance of bus riding I made new friends, explored a new area, and got some damn good tamales. During summer I was able to work on an urban archaeological dig at a house designed by Louis Sullivan and Frank Llyod Wright which was super awesome. I worked alongside some highly intelligent people from the University of Chicago. I got down and dirty with a trowel making it hot work during the day, followed by a cool jump in Lake Michigan in the afternoon. Evenings were spent enjoying free music in Millenium Park, picnics, celebrating the summer birthdays of many dear friends, and dancing away the evening.

Once The dig was over I was able to head out to Seattle to visit a high school friend. I felt like I betrayed Chicago a bit because the classic Seattle hot dog is my favorite in the world. 1. they come with cream cheese on top 2. you can get them vegetarian at any street stand. From Seattle I spent a day on three ferries and one bus to get to Vancouver, Canada where I made new friends, couchsurfing with some very chill people.

My next adventure is a roadtrip across the U.S.A. before I tackle my senior year of college, but first, photos from the aforementioned adventures.

I had to read this for a class in Mexico and had forgotten how interesting it was

Now I’m just reblogging my friends pictures until I find time to go through mine and put them up. Luckily, my friends got skills at photography!

What a sunny (silly + funny) day at Humbolt Park.

We celebrated one of the first nice days that Chicago had to offer by going ‘down the street’ (as I like to call anything on north avenue) and playing in Humboldt Park. A picnic, some scoopball, helado, and a dance later, we left as pretty happy people :)
